When you bought custom leather shoes, you wanted them to maintain their shape for many years, so you used shoe trees. These have a wooden toes with springs and wooden knobs. These were really important as if your leather shoes got wet, they could shrink or get misshapen. They are now collector items, looking cool hanging on a wall or on top of a dresser.
